The vice president for science and technology affairs believes that the knowledge-based economy has had a tangible growth in Iran, and creating the proper ecosystem for accelerating this process requires the sympathy and cooperation of all organizations, including the Islamic Consultative Assembly.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Sorena Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs, pointed out in the presence of representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly that the increasing growth of startups and providing new services every day have led to serious transformations in the society’s attitude toward university, research and technology. In this regard, he expressed his hope about the cooperation of the representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and continuation of the process of transformation and cultural mainstreaming of knowledge-based economy with a higher speed.

Creating the Proper Environment

The president of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter regarded the elimination of barriers and providing a suitable environment for startup and knowledge-based businesses the major mission of the Vice-Presidency with the help and cooperation of other organizations, including the Islamic Consultative Assembly. In this respect, he affirmed: promoting the discourse and culture of knowledge-based economics is an important step in supporting the development and empowerment of knowledge-based companies, which should be subject to significant changes in the laws, structures and administrative bureaucracy and the market.

Sattari considered the flourishing of more than 4,000 knowledge-based companies, the value creation of thousands of startups, and the 60,000-million-dollar revenue earned by these businesses as a small part of the efforts made to expand the entrepreneurial environment and innovation of knowledge-based companies.

Capable of Supplying 97 Percent of Pharmaceutical Needs of the Country

Pointing out the domestication and production of 97% of medications needs in the country by knowledge-based companies, Sattari asserted: localization and production of 97% of the country"s drug requirement will prevent the exit of $550 million, while $1.8 million is related to the remaining 3%, which will be fully domesticated by technologists of the country in the next two years.

The Existence of Superiority Infrastructures in the Field of Innovation

Sattari explained that the goal of Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs is that if a cost is spent on research by the government, the added value created is multiple the amount of investment. In this regard, he added: the mission of the government is not being invovled in applied research, business intelligence and startup. Rather, it should merely provide a suitable environment for these areas; an environment where private sector investors will see real profits in research investment. For this transformation, we need a new environment.

According to the president for science and technology affairs, our country has the most important infrastructure and prerequisites for the formation of this environment, which is the young and creative human resources. Based on global indicators of innovation, Iran is at the top of the countries with human capital and this valuable investment needs an environment that is consistent with entrepreneurship and innovation.
