During a visit to the Endocrinology Research Institute at the University of Tehran, the Vice President of Science called the "health sector" the focus of attention of artificial intelligence activists around the world.
According to the Communication and Information Center in the Vice Presidency of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, Hossein Afshin, Vice President of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, along with Seyyed Reza Raeeskarami, President of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and Bagher Ardeshir Larijani, Founder and Director of the University's Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute, visited the Endocrinology Research Institute of the University of Tehran on Tuesday morning (January 9) to familiarize themselves with the capacities, infrastructures, and scientific capabilities.
In his speech, Afshin expressed his pleasure at being present at this scientific center and emphasized the importance of investing in the field of health, saying: The Endocrine Research Institute, consisting of three research institutes and 14 research centers, as one of the university's scientific hubs, has accounted for 20 percent of the university's highly cited articles.
Referring to the approach by the Vice Presidency of Science to supporting pioneers in the field of science and technology, he said: "We at the Vice Presidency seek to support those who are leading the way in progress and who are making more efforts."
The Vice President of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, emphasizing the pivotal role of research centers in the country's development, added: "Spending money on research centers is an investment in the future of the country. I believe that if this investment is in the field of health, it will be doubly valuable."
Afshin also emphasized the growing trend of artificial intelligence around the world, stating: While artificial intelligence is developing in various fields, the "health sector" as a focal area has attracted special attention from artificial intelligence activists in all countries.
The head of the National Elites Foundation, emphasizing the importance of "data" in the development of artificial intelligence, called it "the bloodstream of artificial intelligence" and pointed to the need to create native learning algorithms and develop a national artificial intelligence operating system.
National AI operating system on the way
Afshin, while pointing out the dependence of AI activists on foreign platforms such as OpenAI, emphasized the need to create native learning algorithms to avoid possible errors and provide more accurate suggestions. He continued: "In this regard, we have signed a contract with Sharif University of Technology to develop a national AI operating system; this operating system is being developed and will be presented soon."
GPU farm to be operational by early next year
The Vice President of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, further pointing out the importance of the necessary infrastructure for the development of artificial intelligence, announced: "The GPU farm will be ready for operation early next year. This farm will provide the necessary hardware infrastructure to perform heavy calculations and execute complex artificial intelligence algorithms."
He also emphasized the importance of the role of pioneers in the development of artificial intelligence, especially in the field of health: "In the continuation of the path, the important point is that some people must be pioneers in that path, and one of these pioneers can be in the field of health."
Afshin continued his speech by emphasizing the importance of investing in various fields of artificial intelligence and mentioned focusing on "endocrine research institutes" as one of the main priorities.
10x increase in AI publications
The Vice President of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, referring to the high capacity of specialized human resources in Iran, stated: Good human resources are Iran's capital; we can move forward five years with one year of work.
Finally, referring to the success of a project in the field of artificial intelligence, he said: We announced a call for professors from all universities in the country to present syllabus on the field of artificial intelligence and to record and publish the discussions. In this regard, we were able to increase the number of publications in the field of artificial intelligence by 10 times within four months.
