Water is a vital resource that has always been emphasized and the necessity of its optimal use has always been focused, especially now that all the water resources are being finished and the risk of drought is a serious threat.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, many researchers and authorities have seriously followed up this vital resource and have performed various studies in order to eliminate problems in this field.

The conduct of these actions and the preparation of its documents has led to a review of the five-year period from 2012 to 2017, demonstrating that Iran"s rank regarding the number of scientific documents in the area of water, soil and environment has been upgraded.

According to the statistics published in Country Ranking & SCImago Journal, the rank of Iran has been promoted in the number scientific documents in water field.

According to the statistics published by Scimago % Journal (country ranking), Iran ranked 13th in the world in the field of scientific documentation, 13th rank in the field of soil, 12th rank in the field of water science and technology, 15th rank in the field of waste management, 15^th rank in the field of pollution and 16th rank in the field of environmental engineering in 2012. These ranks improved to 12^th, 9^th, 14^th, 9^th, and 13^th, respectively, in 2017.

In 2013, the number of documents in Iran was 314, 609, 273, 531, and 352 in fields of soil, water science and technology, waste management, pollution, and environmental engineering, respectively. In 2017, these ranks improved to 493, 1081, 452, 1081, and 656, respectively, showing growth and improvement in this area in Iran.
