Maintaining the Fourth Rank of Iran in Nanoscience Publications in 2018

In 2018, more than 166 thousand nano articles were indexed on the database of Web of Science, which includes 10% of the total articles of the database. The fields of chemistry, material and physics have the most share of nano articles. Similar to last year, the countries of China, the United States, India, and Iran are the four leading countries in publication of nano articles in the world.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the database of StatNano has extracted and published nanotechnology data and statistics using scientific methodologies, and is recognized as the reference of researchers and investors of the world. In addition, the statistics of nano articles are extracted from the Web of Science for all countries using a specific term and are reported monthly.

According to this report, more than 166 thousand articles related to nanotechnology were published in 2018, which shows an increase above 7% compared to last year. In addition to research articles, more than nine thousand reviews were published this year, which includes about 5% of the total nano publications.

Compared to 2017, no change has been made in the rank of top countries in nanoscience production in the world, and Iran maintains its fourth rank this year similar to 2017.

According to StatNano, the share of nano articles from all scientific publications has had an ascending rate, similar to last years. In 2018, about 9.7% of the total scientific publications was related to nanotechnology, which was the highest rate since 2014.

Moreover, Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, and India have the highest share of publication of nano articles compared to its local share. In this regard, the interesting issue is the presence of Iraq as the fifth country in this index. While Iraqi researchers published only 463 articles related to nanotechnology in 2018, this amount accounts for about 17% of the total scientific publication of Iraq in the same year.

Subjective evaluation of nano articles in 2018 shows that the most articles are published in fields of chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering sciences. In addition, four articles of Applied Materials Interfaces, Applied surface Science (ACS), RCS Advances, and Nanoscale have the most share of nano article publications. The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Islamic Azad University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Shinhwa University of China are the centers that have published the largest number of nano articles last year.
