According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, about 14,000 oil leakage accidents occur every year. While most of these accidents are small and manageable, some cause disasters. When oil enters a water environment, it undergoes physical, chemical and environmental changes, which affects the water environment. Entrance of oil materials into water sources could have short- and long-term adverse effects on the ecosystem of various creatures.

Several damages to the ecosystem of human beings and other creatures caused by the entrance of oil into water sources have led to the sustainable evaluation of production of a material for reduction and elimination of oil pollutions in water in scientific centers of the world in order to produce a compound with maximum productivity.

Therefore, the challenge for technology of construction of new absorbent materials for oil pollution will be held by University of Hormozgan and by the support of the marine knowledge-based industries and technologies development headquarter.

The first stage of the event is obtaining the ideas during October 22^nd-December 5^th, 2017. Early evaluation and selection of the best ideas will be carried out during December 5^th-10^th, 2017. In this regard, the three top ideas will be rewarded facilities with the price of 30 million IRR.

According to this report, the session for presenting samples to be evaluated will be February 18^th 2017, which will be then rewarded with the award of 50 million IRR in a ceremony.
