The Second Symposium of “Skin Repair, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine” Was Held

The second symposium of “skin repair, stem cells and regenerative medicine” was held with the support of the stem cells and regenerative medicine development headquarter in Shohadaye Tajrish Hospital.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Amir Ali Hamidieh, secretary of stem cells and regenerative medicine development headquarter reminded the bright future of using stem cells as an independent and important science in the second symposium of “skin repair, stem cells and regenerative medicine”.
Hamidieh expressed: 26 specialized working groups have been established in the headquarter and it is necessary to use not only professors and students but also entrepreneurs, knowledge-based companies and all those who want to contribute to science development in this field by holding classes and research projects in third and fourth-generation universities. In addition, it is required to receive help from the private sector alongside the governmental supports to enhance stem cells and regenerative medicine.

According to Hamidieh, there are currently 45 centers active in the area of stem cells. In addition, comprehensive centers of stem cells and regenerative medicine have been created in three poles of North (Tabriz), South (Shiraz), and Center (Tehran). These centers are established at the heart of universities. However, 51% of their share is allocated to knowledge-based companies, whereas the remaining 49% was assigned to the university.

Hamidieh also mentioned the deep interactions between the headquarter and the ministry of education in line with reducing the age of researchers, announcing the establishment of student research centers in provinces of Alborz, Fars, and Kerman.

He also regarded the establishment of the first farm of laboratory animals in Kerman, setting up the first treatment guide of stem cells by the ministry of health, and creation of “cell city” in collaboration with Kharazmi University as other important activities in the area of stem cells and regenerative medicine.

The new cell therapy methods for skin diseases and burns, gene therapy in genetic diseases of the skin, stem cells and rejuvenation, necessities of clinical studies and challenges of cell therapy are among the topics presented by researchers and professors in this scientific event.
