The Lancet international meeting was held October 31^st 2017 at the location of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs in the presence of the secretary of biotechnology development headquarter.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, this meeting was held by the international institute of Lancet along with the specialized meetings in 20 countries of the world, including England, Australia, Brazil, America, China, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Spain.

In this meeting, Mostafa Ghanei, secretary of biotechnology development headquarter, emphasized the existence of laws and regulations in the country for implementation of practical and management solutions, aiming to turn threats, caused by climate exchange, into opportunities with an emphasis on the principles of economy of resistance.

He added: negative effect of climate change on health can be minimized by implementing the relevant solutions.

In addition, professor Hugh Montgomery, deputy chairman of the commission on climate change and public health of Lancet, explained the background and international cooperation fields within the framework of Lancet commission, such as climate change, general health, food safety and energy.

He continued: cooperation of Lancet international institute and biotechnology development headquarter is an effective and strategic solution for turning threats into opportunities in future plans.

During this meeting, Mostafa Ghanei, secretary of biotechnology development headquarter, Ardeshir Khosravi, director general of health information statistics department of health, Maziar Moradi Lakeh, head of center for preventive medicine research in Iran University of Medical Sciences, Fereydoon Owfi, member of the faculty and director of the department of ecology of the sea fisheries research institute, Mohammad Hossein Niknam, continuous member of academy of medical sciences, and Meysam Tabatabaei, head of biofuels committee, presented the summary of the latest national and international findings of Lancet committee in areas of climate change, general health, food safety and energy based on the schedule prepared by Zari’ Zare, head of the office of international affairs of environment and energy of the ministry of foreign affairs.

Some of the most important scientific findings of Iranian and international researchers expressed in this meeting were, as follows: 1) over the past 15 years, 120 million people were added to the list of individuals affected by the consequence of global warming; 2) the level of particles smaller than 2.5 microns is higher than the standards of the world health organization in 87% of cities in the world, which is significantly higher, compared to the previous statistics; 3) lack of food and malnutrition is the most important challenge of the 21^st century, and any increase in the global temperature caused by climate exchange could decrease wheat and rice production by 6% and 10%, respectively; and 4) over a billion people of the world’s population was forced to move in 2011 due to increased water level caused by melting of polar ice”.

Other findings included: “over the past 15 years, labor productivity in agriculture has decreased by 5.3% due to global warming, which can endanger the life and occupation of rural societies” and “incidence of accidents affected by climate change has increased 46% in the past 15 years, causing economic damages of 129 billion dollars. It should be noted that 99% of these damages are imposed to low-income countries”.

Results of this international research was published in the last issue of the Lancet international journal (October 31^st 2017) with impact factor of 48.
