Synthetic biology is a nascent and convergent domain. To develop technologies related to this field, researchers from different fields come together and the result is a new synergy. There are good capacities in the country to expand this field, and soon the knowledge-based companies providing special services in this field will accelerate the activities.

Ali Mohammad Soltani, the head of the strategic convergent technologies center, considered one of the priorities of the center in the new year as the formation of companies providing special synthetic biological services, adding: applications of artificial biology are expanding. There are now technologies in the field that are a short distance from the market, and the number of these products is growing rapidly.

He added: according to these points, this convergent field was considered by the center in order to develop it according to the good capacities that we have in the country. As the first step of this year, we have aimed to help the formation of two-three technological companies to present special synthetic biological services.

The president of the strategic convergent technologies center mentioned that the synthetic biology aimed to develop purposeful designs in the biotechnology world, adding: this area follows the redesign of existing natural biological systems for use purposes. Given its emergence, we have studied and analyzed upstream documents (roadmaps and strategic plans) of leading countries, including the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and China, analyzed articles and patents in this area and examined trends and identified empowering technologies in this area. Of course, the study of the market and the potential applications of synthetic biology in the world and the preparation of databases of companies in the field of synthetic biology in the world are other measures taken in this field to follow the activities in this field with a clear view.

Soltani also marked: powerful and active human resources are essential for the development of this field. In this regard, in the form of training courses and implementation of practical projects and the bedrock of breeding this human resources for this year, we intend to have a core of capable students in the country"s top universities. Moreover, the development of two to three key product technologies in this field is one of our other programs in the new year.
