According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Mohammad Taghi Joghataei, secretary of brain awareness week, stated: brain was still an unknown box and unchangeable element until the middle of the 20^th century. Therefore, many diseases were believed to be incurable. However, gradual improvement in knowledge about brain demolished this type of thinking. Techniques such as tissue assessment, cell stimulation (electrophysiological studies) and brain mapping have revealed many applications of brain. Increased brain awareness led to the notion that how this knowledge is provided for people, especially students.

Holding Brain Awareness Week at Three Levels

In the next section of the meeting, Sina Tavakoli, executive secretary of brain awareness week, stated that last year, the slogan of this event of “recognize your brain” and the event continues its activities with the same slogan. In this regard, he continued: our headquarter will guide and provide the foundation for holding this event since brain awareness week is a public event.

Programs of the cultural center in brain awareness week

Tavakoli continued: five cultural centers will host five programs in the area of depression and Alzheimer’s disease, so that experts of this field could provided some explanations in this regard. Moreover, the seminar of kindergarten instructors will be held with the cooperation of welfare organization to pay attention to issues related to brain with regard to the age of these individuals. 

Holding four specialized seminars for students

He talked about the student programs of this week: brain and cognition ambassadors will visit 100 schools and research centers during this week to increase the knowledge of students about brain and cognition. Moreover, four specialized seminars will be held in districts 3, 14 and 6 of Tehran and city of Rey.

Formation of Scientific Brain and Cognition Associations

Reza Panahi, manager of the student workgroup of the headquarter, mentioned the formation of brain and cognition associations by students, asserting: we have aimed to increase these associations to 50 in universities of the country, so that students of other fields could also learn about brain. In line with this week, these associations will hold exhibitions in universities, which strengthens this goal. Moreover, two specialized seminars and another seminar will be held in Tehran and Mashhad, respectively. However, various programs have been designed for the media section, such as search engine will be broadcasted from the education and physician program from channel three.

“Brain awareness week” will be held February 23^rd-March 2^nd, 2018 by the cognitive sciences and technologies development headquarter.
