According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, on the 102 meeting of the strategies headquarter for implementation of the scientific macro plan of the country, head of which is Mohammad Reza Mokhaber Dezfuli, secretary of Supreme Council for Cultural Revolution, the issue of evaluation of the “national biotechnology document” was one of the priorities and the generalities of this area were discussed.

Approving Four Macro Biotechnology Goals

In this meeting, four macro goals were approved, including “obtaining the top rank among the 10 countries of the world in biotechnology field and gaining the first rank in the area of biotechnology in west of Asia”, “receiving a worthy rank among five countries of Asia”, and “creating 50 thousand jobs directly” and “achieving three percent of the global market of biotechnology products”. In addition, gaining legal and moral authority in the world in terms of biotechnology was also approved.

In the medical biotechnology area, there are some replacements for some medical items with biology origin, which are exported and their domestic production has been approved.

Production of Required Vaccines Based on Biotechnology

During this meeting, the issue of producing vaccines required in the health center was approved in the form of a safe comprehensive system and production of vaccines for non-transmissible diseases and promotion of biotechnology-based diagnostic methods.

Determining Six Areas in Industrial Biotechnology Field

In addition, six topics and goals have been confirmed in the area of industrial biotechnology, such as production of prioritized bio-products with impacts on health of society, development of production of new energies, protein with biological methods, chemical compounds by traditional methods and development of technology and production of biology polymers.

Determining the Priorities of Biotechnology in Agriculture

Some of the topics determined as prioritized fields in the area of agriculture include use of bio-inhibitors in control of pests and diseases, application of bio fertilizers and feed management compilation, applying tissue culture plants, use of biotechnology in gene correction and genetic improvement of livestock, poultry and aquatics, application of molecular methods in recognition of plant diseases of livestock, poultry and aquatics, and use of recombinant vaccines in treatment of livestock, poultry and aquatics.
