According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Mahmoud Mehrdad Shokrieh, secretary of the advanced manufacturing and materials development headquarter, stated that expectations from knowledge-based companies are high, asserting: there is a chain to turn an idea into a product and present it to the market. In fact, commercialization process of research ideas involves various activities, some of which have been neglected in the chain of Iran. Attention to various sections of this process and coordinated and organized relationship among them are some of the necessities for success in commercialization of research ideas.

Shokrieh described the necessary measures for establishment of a knowledge-based company, stating: the path of turning ideas into product and achieving the market cannot be easily obtained and an individual with acceptable ideas needs support for its realization.

Secretary of the advanced manufacturing and materials development headquarter also expressed: intellectual property protection in the country is another issue that affects this chain. There is a great need for supportive organizations in order to commercialize patents. The next stage is familiarization with product market and presenting products to the market, which also needs investors.

In another part of his speech, Shokrieh stated that all of the responsibilities are not on the shoulder of universities and the private sector, government and industries must contribute to this area as well. In this regard, he continued: lack of presence of various infrastructures, such as high-risk investments, intellectual property protection, creation of a proper environment for idea making, standards, national codes and similar issues slow down or stop the efforts made in this field. In addition, significant relationship with various global centers in areas of idea creation, research, standardization, and market is another fundamental need for success in all stages of the mentioned chain.
