The Iran national space and advanced transportation administration announced over a call that it will support creative and top projects in the field of designing and domestically manufacturing distance measuring equipment (DME) navigation assist.

The DME is a system that measures the distance between an airplane and a land device. In this device, unlike the radar system that uses the mechanism of transmitting waves and reflecting them after they are impeded, a two-way transmission is performed.

In other words, both the aircraft and the ground station send waves. The total time taken to receive radio waves from the aircraft to the ground station and vice versa is then measured, the delay time is subtracted from the remaining time, and the result is divided by the number.

From the time obtained, we can calculate the air distance between the aircraft and the station and calculate the distance; the altitude of the aircraft and the distance to the ground.

With regard to the importance of domestication of such an important device in the aerial industry, the Iran national space and advanced transportation administration has announced a call to support the production of the system.
