Completing the Basket of Bio Drugs; 570 Million Dollars Will Be Returned to Country’s Treasury
The name of Iran has been registered among the countries producing bio drugs, which were produced in the heyday of sanctions and solely on the basis of our own scientific findings. Currently, about 50 bio drugs have been registered in the country's drug list, 22 of which have been localized so far.
According to the biotechnology development headquarter, there are 146 bio drugs in the global market, 52 of which exist in the market of Iran and some of them are monoclonal antibody drugs and recombinant drugs.
At present, considering the amount of exports and meeting the needs of the domestic market, Iran's biotechnology has between 4.0 and 0.5 percent of the global market volume of biotechnology. Meanwhile, Mostafa Ghanei, the secretary of the biotechnology development headquarter, has emphasized the necessity of acquiring three percent of the global bio market by Iran, which means 20 billion Dollars of saving in foreign currency exchange.
According to a recent Global Innovation Index (2019), most of the Iranian pharmaceutical market needs are met by domestic companies, and 70 percent of the $4.5 billion domestic drug market is owned by domestic companies.
