This morning, the first organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) summit on science and technology was initiated in Kazakhstan in the presence of the president of Iran and vice president for science and technology affairs.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Dr. Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran, along with Sorena Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs, and Mohammad Javad Zarif, minister of foreign affairs, traveled to Kazakhstan to attend the OIC summit, which was held in the presence of 24 presidents of Islamic countries and their high-level political, scientific and cultural delegations.

Problems of Humans Can Be Solved by Science and Technology

Before his travel to Kazakhstan, Rouhani congratulated Eid al-Ghadeer to the Iranian nation and all Muslims of the world in a press conference, stating: this day is the day of continuing the path of guidance, which was clearly stated by Mohammad the prophet and his relatives. This path has led to moving in the straight path of Islam.

President of Iran gladly mentioned that his first travel as the 12^th government of Iran coincided with Eid al-Ghadeer, affirming: the subject of this summit is science and technology. Meanwhile, the major problems of human beings, including poverty, occupation, food safety, environment, water and energy, can only be solved with the use of science and technology.

Emphasizing the fact that science and technology can lead to sustainable development of the country and job creation, Rouhani pointed out: some of the participating countries of this summit, especially Iran, have been the major leaders of science and technology over the past centuries. Iran was the prominent science advocates prior to Islam and Islamic civilization.

According to the president of Iran, cooperation and coordination of Islamic countries can help all of us to reach our goals. In this regard, he asserted: this is the first science and technology summit for Islamic countries, in which the 10-year document of 2026 is evaluated. According to this framework, educational cooperation in the Islamic world, solving the problems of Islamic countries and use of capacities and potential of these countries will be determined.

He affirmed that cooperation in the area of new sciences, technologies and applied sciences is another issued discussed in the summit. He expressed: in this document, the concept of mega projects and cooperation of Islamic countries in performing large projects will be evaluated.

According to Dr. Rouhani, the method for cooperation of top universities of Islamic countries and relationship between global and Islamic technologies were other parts of the summit. In this regard, he marked: we hope that this summit creates a good foundation for better cooperation of Islamic countries in science and technology.

Pointing out the cause of this summit, which was evaluation of the condition of Myanmar, Rouhani mentioned: today, a large human catastrophe and mass killing of a race and ideology is occurring and hundred thousands of Muslims are homeless and the Islamic world cannot be silent about this issue.

Dr. Rouhani criticized the silence and lack of action of international organizations against this crime, stating: a greater pressure must be put on the government and military service of this country, and international organizations must be more active in this regard. Moreover, neighbors of this country (e.g., China and Bangladesh) must help the homeless people.

Rouhani also pointed out that other meetings will be held with the authorities of Islamic countries, affirming: in these meetings, we will talk about the mutual relationship and proper development of technology.
