According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Dr. Eshaq Jahangiri stated on a meeting with entrepreneurs, selected startups and knowledge-based units of Pardis technology park: Iran has an oil-based economy, and this type of resource has been turned into an important income of the country since the discovery and extraction of oil.

Dr. Jahangiri pointed out that two dangers threaten the oil-based incomes, affirming: one of these threats is the fact that oil incomes might end one day, causing disasters for the country.

The first vice president for science and technology affairs mentioned: we need to reduce this dependency on oil. In this regard, our supreme leader has stated many times that the economy of the country must not rely on oil-based income.

The first vice president expressed that it is normal to face problems and barriers when starting new things in a developing country, asserting: however, we have aimed to modify the troubling regulations and it is our goal to create the necessary infrastructures and path of development for knowledge-based companies.

He pointed out the emphasis of the supreme leader on the support of domestic production, stating: the ministry of industry, mine and trade has provided a list of domestically produced products and the government has ordered all governmental companies and organizations not to purchase foreign products with domestic counterparts.

The minister of industry, mine and trade expressed that an industry without science and technology is doomed to decline. In this regard, he continued: knowledge-based activities without connection to the market are also doomed to decline. Therefore, there must be a proper connection between industry and knowledge-based activities.

In the beginning of this meeting, the head of Pardis technology park presented a report on the activities and goals of this park, followed by expressing opinions by a number of managers of startups and knowledge-based companies.

During this meeting, the first vice president was accompanied by Shariatmadari, the minister of industry, mine and trade, and Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs.
