The meeting on inauguration of pilot of developing the business of energy services companies was held in the presence of activists in the field of energy consumption optimization.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, “optimization of energy and environment in the building sector, modifying the rules and evolution of the market” is an international project carried out with the goal of increasing energy efficiency of residential and administrative-commercial buildings. This project was initiated in 2016 with the joint cooperation of Global Environment Facility, United Nations Development Program, and the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs. The meeting on inauguration of pilot of developing the business of energy services companies was held as a steps of the project in line with its implementation.

Ali Vatani, the national executor of the project, expressed: in Iran, energy consumption is four times higher than the global standard. Therefore, we have attempted to change the course of this issue by implementing this project since we must decrease our greenhouse gas emission from 2020 onward, failure of which could lead to paying fines.

In addition, Nasim Shekari, the national manager of the project, explained about its process, asserting: developing the business of energy services companies is one of the goals of the project in order to propose a suitable model for energy market of Iran and witness the formation of the market based on standard regulations at the national level.

Transforming the Market for Optimization of Energy Consumption

Shekari also marked: this project has been started since 2016 and will continue to 2020. The project has been formed of three major parts. Revision of laws is the first part in order to ultimately create a national system and assess the information of buildings in all market models. In the second section, we consider the heating systems with solar water heater in residential and government buildings. Transforming the market for optimization of energy consumption and energy services companies is the third part of the project, which involves culture-building and public education of buildings’ residents.

Presenting an Optimization Model for Energy Consumption in Buildings

Mohsen Soleimani, the representative of UNDP, pointed out that the project has been proposed and a new plan has been designed, adding: we must add creativity to the project implementation process since it would lead to better results. Efforts have been dedicated to the optimization of energy consumption in the country but a current has failed to be formed. In this project, however, a current is considered to provide a suitable space for cooperation of governments with each other and with the private sector and people. In addition to an engineering view, we need a socioeconomic view as well.
