The algae committee of biotechnology development headquarter is formed as the subcategory of the working group of the headquarter.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the working group of the biotechnology headquarter has initiated evaluation of algae studies since October 2017. This working group has been established with regard to the importance and position of algae in flourishing of the economy.

The necessities of development of algae industry in the country based on climate benefits of the region include “climate changes in the country”, “drought and lack of access to sufficient drinking water sources”, “presence of salt water in the country”, “wide area of desserts and uncultivated soils”, “access to the vast amount of light and frequency of sunny days”, “work market need, especially for fields of biotechnology and biochemistry”, “large domestic market” and “market of neighboring countries”.

Since algae requires no fresh water and can grow in salt water with high production efficiency. Therefore, it can be a suitable industry for the country that deals with drought.
