Infographic: small but economical

Contrary to the general belief, algae are classified as plants. Rather, these tiny aquatic creatures are of protist type. These creatures usually grow near or in the water and are recognized as aquatic creatures without actual roots.

According to experts, studies on this aquatic creature dates back to the 18th century. According to the results, there are more than 300 thousand algae in the world. Algae are mostly found in green, brown, and red. These aquatic creatures are an important part of sea ecosystem and provide the food of many aquatic creatures. Some of them are consumed by humans. In addition, algae also produce oxygen by photosynthesis.

However, their application is not limited to these items and scientists have proven that algae are also used in various industries such as food industry, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, biofuels, water and wastewater treatment, agriculture, and animal husbandry.
