According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Amir Ali Hamidieh, secretary of stem cells sciences and technologies development headquarter, expressed on the international congress of new aspects of applicable biotechnology that today, many incurable diseases can be treated with stem cells. Over the past few years, there have been successful studies on the use of stem cells and treatments based on regenerative medicine.
According to Hamidieh, the foundation for stem cell use for the treatment of high-grade diseases has been around for five decades.
In this regard, he explained: therefore, by passing of time and development of knowledge, more researchers focused on cell surface instead of organ and tissue surface and assessed the inside of cells. Over the past decade, a field of study with the title of “Cellular Engineering” was formed with the cooperation of scientists from various fields of basic medical sciences (e.g., applicable cell sciences, biotechnology, and genetics), technical engineering, medicine and pharmacy. The newly emerged field is the origin of the remarkable advances made in recent years in the rehabilitation of stem cells and medical cells.
According to the secretary of stem cells sciences and technologies development headquarter, the main hypothesis of tissue engineering is to have natural applications for biotechnology, which has led to more success in the establishment of therapeutic solutions with the goal of replacement, repairing, maintenance or improvement of function of the desired tissue.
Pointing out the key transformations in the area of biotechnology has led to the formation of a new set of tissue replacement pieces and implementation strategies, Hamidieh marked: scientific progresses in the bio-materials, stem cells, growth and distinguishing factors and biomimetic environment have led to the creation of unique opportunities for producing tissues from extracellular matrix compounds (scaffolds) and biologically active cells and molecules in functional biology laboratories.
He also talked about various methods of using stem cells and regenerative medicine in treatment of diseases and pointed out the important achievements in the past few years in order to develop and advance the infrastructures and develop the relevant human resources.
