An Opportunity for Developing New Startups in the Convergent Area

Supporting startups in the convergent area and introducing them to investors is among the measures taken by the convergent technologies strategic center performed with the support of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, numerous studies are carried out by researchers in a year, the majority of which remain at the stage of patent registration, article production or sample creation. Meanwhile, most of these studies have the ability to be turned into products. In addition, the mechanism for creating interactions between technology developers and business developers has not been created in areas, with the exception of the ICT field.

Therefore, the convergent technologies strategic center has published the call for new convergent technologies to recognize active startups in this field and help the commercialization of their achievements. By doing so, introducing the active startups to accelerators and support centers will be facilitated.

The first call for new convergent technologies was published in May 2018 by the convergent technologies strategic center and with the support of knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter. Startups were able to send their projects until August 2018.

Currently, the second call has been announced by the center and startups can sent their projects until February 2019. This call provides an opportunity for startups to register and introduce their startup product and continue their activity in supportive organizations after passing the evaluation stages. The supply, demand, and supply-demand connector are technologists, new companies, and researchers, industrial companies and venture capitals, and accelerators, respectively.

However, the second call has some additional features, compared to the previous call. Firstly, technical centers will assist startups to develop their products. Four technical centers will provide the necessary infrastructures for startups so that in addition to benefiting from technical counseling, the centers could develop their products and use the workshop and laboratory facilities of these centers. Moreover, by adding the general and special topics, it is aimed to meet the needs of the country. Another feature is growth of presence of investors in this call, compared to the previous call.
