The “Start” grant is one of the supports provided for attracting and maintaining Iranian graduates to witness the improvement of science quality in the country.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, being a prominent nation in science and technology is the goal of any country. Investment in and support of research and its development will realize this goal. Over the past decades, America was able to invest large assets in this section and regarded it a main priority as the prominent in science and technology. This enhancement has turned America into the superpower of the world. In fact, research and development is the most important driver of innovation, which in the form of product, service, and process production can lead to increased social welfare, improved life standards, enhanced national competivity and formation of new knowledge, technology, entrepreneurship and occupations.

In this regard, the national science foundation has put the support of researchers of the country on its agenda. These supports increase every year. Balanced support of research and helping the production of strategic technologies and knowledge for the realization of a sustainable world based on the epistemological fundamentals and scientific resources of the country should be recognized as the mission of the foundation. This is in line with more support of improvement of science quality in scientific centers and attracting and maintaining Iranian PhD holders. In fact, individuals graduated from valid universities of the world and working in one of the science centers of the country will benefit from this support. However, their proposed research projects must be based on research priorities of the country. This support is up to one billion rials. Last year, 43 Iranian researchers requested grants, where a total of seven grants was approved. In addition, two patent registration, six sample production, 15 research articles, 17 ISI articles and production of one software were among the achievements of this support.
