Over the course of a decade, the value chain in the ecosystem of medicinal plants has gradually taken on its true form. Given the diverse applications of natural products and plants, it is better to use more accurate words such as industrial plants instead of pharmaceutical plants.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the value chain and production in the ecosystem of medicinal plants, especially in the last 10 years, has undergone structural changes.

Mohammad Hasan Osareh, the secretary of the medical plants and traditional medicine technologies development headquarter, talked about the importance and dominant industrial side of pharmaceutical plants, stating: given the wide variety of uses of herbs and natural herbal ingredients in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, beverages, and the perfume industry, tanning and dyeing, it may be better to use the word "industrial plants" instead of pharmaceutical plants.

According to Osareh, the industrialization of this field and the transition from traditional methods of processing to technology-based methods are among the pillars of the traditional medicine headquarter.

This policy and the completion of the transition from conventional and old trends to the industrialization of medicinal plants and natural plant compounds is rooted in economic realities.

The growth of global demand for herbal medicines, health products, etc., based on herbal products, has caused the technology and downstream industries related to herbal medicines and medicinal plants to grow significantly.

According to the sixth development plan, the export of medical plants until the end of the program should have a considerable growth. Therefore, the headquarter has aimed to attract capital and create motivation for activists of the private sector to guide various components of the large industrial change toward the development.
