Iran has the largest share of biotechnology startups in the region
According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Sorena Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs pointed out the significant potential of the country in training creative human resource on the closing ceremony of the 24th global biotechnology Olympiad (IBO 2018), expressing: knowledge-based economy as the major basis for development of the country relies on the creativity of human resources.
The vice president for science and technology affairs mentioned the desired position of Iran regarding the biotechnology products, stating: in addition to having a desired place in the region regarding science production in biotechnology, Iran has been ranked 13 in the region and 14 in the area of stem cells.
Sattari talked about the considerable share of regional knowledge-based companies and startups in this field, expressing: more than 98% of medications required in the country are supplied by the domestic knowledge-based companies. It is notable that the success of these startups is in the hand of creative and capable human resource, that can significantly improve the economy of this field. one of the outputs of this type of human resources is Olympiads.
President of the national elites foundation emphasized the necessity of creating a proper innovation and investment ecosystem for creative human resources, marking: this year, a great leap was observed in the biology Olympiad. Similar to last years, the national elites foundation covers the winners of the Olympiad since it is necessary to guide the creative and educated human resources to be on the track of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Awarding the Gold Winners of Biotechnology Olympiad 2018
In addition, the gold winners of the 29th round of the global biotechnology Olympiad received their medals in the presence of the vice president for science and technology affairs, minister of education, executive secretary of Olympiad and head of the scientific committee of Olympiad.
In this competition, Iranian students were able to achieve two gold, one silver and one bronze medals. Parmida Pezeshkian and Nikan Amirkhani received the gold medals, whereas Sara Mohammad and Mahdi Masrour gained the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The global biotechnology Olympiad 2018 has been initiated since July 15th 2018 in Tehran. In total, 270 students from 70 countries participated in the Olympiad, practical and theory sections of which were held on July 17th and 19th, respectively.
