A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs and the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance to establish the specialized accelerator and innovation center of cinema in Iran.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, on March 18^th 2019, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Parviz Karami, the secretary of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter, and Alireza Tabesh, the head of Farabi Cinema Foundation, to establish the specialized accelerator and innovation center of cinema in Iran.

In this ceremony, Tabesh expressed: the comprehensive cinema project of Iran has been established for two years now. This project draws the 10-year vision plan in the field of cinema and has 10 fundamental strategies, one of the most important of which is the document of content creation movement and special attention to domestic and international markets.

Tabesh continued: signing of this memorandum of understanding between Farabi Foundation and the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter will facilitate the path toward the realization of this fundamental strategy.

Cinema Industry Requires a Special and Innovative View

Parviz Karami, the secretary of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter, regarded signing this agreement as opening doors of innovation and technology to art, specifically the cinema industry. In this regard, he stated: according to the memorandum of understanding between the Vice-Presidency and ministry of culture and Islamic Guidance, the penetration of various sciences and technologies into the field of culture and art has been planned. However, the cinema industry needs a more special view toward the use of technologies and innovations.

In this regard, meetings in the presence of Sorena Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs, the minister of culture and Islamic guidance, deputies and cinema activists have shown the importance of efforts made to create innovation centers in various culture, art, and cinema fields. 

Increased Turnover of Cinema to Five Trillion Tomans

Advisor to the vice president for science and technology affairs expressed: the 260 billion tomans turnover of the cinema industry has shown the importance of this issue. However, the capacity of this industry is extremely higher. Efforts must be dedicated to the formation of new markets, including web series, digital cinema, animations, and production of new contents, which could lead to reaching five thousand billion tomans in the market. Art-cinema industry in the country pays more attention to the production and screening. However, Farabi Foundation has evaluated the issue from a startup point of view. Signing this agreement and creation of an innovation are carried out for the same purpose.

Karami regarded the production of creative content in the main foundation of cinema industry, affirming: utilizing new business models will create a larger market for content produced in the cinema industry.

He also stated a memory of formation of the successful startup of Dirin Dirin established with the cooperation of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter for the first time, expressing: by creating the first innovation center for cinema of Iran, more attention will be paid to topics of Internet series, home theater series and animations and the exploitation and creation of the startups of the cinema art industry. Moreover, according to this memorandum, in cooperation with the Farabi Foundation, the potential of the field of science and technology and its achievements will enter the subject of the script, and the narration of the conquests of the science and technology jihad will be displayed further.

According to this report, the aim of signing this agreement is building the culture of knowledge-based economy, and attracting accelerators, startups and knowledge-based companies.

In addition, this memorandum was signed in line with the macro policies of the country for the development of knowledge-based economy and formation of ecosystem of entrepreneurship for academic graduates and creative artists.
