The sea biotechnology working group is formed

Secretary of biotechnology development headquarter announced the establishment of the sea biotechnology working group in this headquarter.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Mostafa Ghanei, secretary of biotechnology development headquarter, stated about the positive measures taken by the headquarter in the past few months: one of the most important measures taken by the headquarter has been the formation of sea biotechnology working group with emphasis on aquaculture and algae production, which play an important role in economic trend.

He continued: sea biotechnology is one of the growing areas, which can contribute to direct or indirect use of creatures, such as fish, algae and/or bacteria.

According to Ghanei, seabed is a proper place for research and development. However, not all of its potentials have been recognized. In fact, a major part of sea creatures (especially primary microorganisms) are still not completely recognized. There is even insufficient knowledge about the recognized creatures for their optimal management and use.

He also asserted: sea biotechnology is a relatively serious field that is allocated to the discovery and use of products and processes taken from marine creatures. These sea creatures have unique compounds and industrial potentials in areas of pharmacological, cosmetics, food additives, molecular explorers, enzymes, special chemical compounds and chemical compounds used in agriculture.

Secretary of biotechnology development headquarter continued: the most important benefits of sea biotechnology include “production of new and modified products”, “providing new technologies for tracking, evaluating, saving, protecting and managing sea ecosystems”, and “aquaculture in a guaranteed and sustainable manner”.

In the end, Ghanei stated in another part of his speech: production of cosmetics and pharmaceutical products, composite materials, biological polymers and industrial enzymes (algae, bacteria, biological molecular compounds, biological trackers, biological pesticides, and energy production using sea biomass) are among the sea biotechnology products.
