The foundation is laid to familiarization of researchers with regional ocean modeling

Field operations at sea are difficult and costly, which has increased the importance of computer modeling of ocean phenomena. Considering this issue, the department of marine technology (IMT) will hold an educational workshop for three days to improve the level of activities in this field.

The course will be held during January 29th-30th, 2020 and is suitable for those who want to be familiarized with the preliminaries and concepts of oceanography and marine modeling. Therefore, professors and students in the fields of marine engineering, coastal and marine engineering, marine physics and oceanography could benefit from the three-day workshop.

Introduction to modeling and oceanic models, ROMS loading, and familiarity with the SVN code versioning system, compiling the test sample in series and in parallel and depicting outputs are some of the axes of this training course.

According to the report, there are various types of marine models, each having its own specific uses, limitations and strengths. For example, regional models are used at firth, coastal and offshore scales. However, the open source model (ROMS) is one of the most widely used oceanic models with an active forex forum with thousands of users registered and superior to similar models.

The course will be held by Badban Marine Accelerator with the support of the MIT department. For more information and registration in the event, please contact the phone number of +9821-66059435.
