Practicality of Academic Theses

Practicality of Academic Theses

The secretary of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter announced the holding of “Panase” festival and competition with the goal of practicality of academic theses, stating: this culture-building event heightens the awareness of society of the importance of scientific achievements and theses. The event includes presenting research findings in three minutes using a simple language.

Parviz Karami, the secretary of the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter, expressed about “Panase” competition: about 800,000 dissertations are submitted annually in the country, equivalent to one percent of the country"s population. However, in developed countries, theses comprise less than half of their population. That is, the number of student research done in Iran is at least twice that of advanced countries.

Advisor to the vice president for science and technology affairs continued: the question arises as to how many people are aware of the research and how it will affect people and society. The Vice-Presidency has aimed to make science applicable and commercialize technologies in the festival so that a bridge is formed between researchers and the public in the festival. The event will raise people’s awareness of the importance of scientific achievements and will help students play a role in academic activities in the country.

The president of the information and communication center of the Vice-Presidency continued: in this competition, researchers and MSc students present their achievements in three minutes using a comprehensible language. The first stage of the competition will be held in universities while its second stage is attended by winners.

Karami considered making the topics of theses and doctoral dissertations applicable in the country, raising the public’s awareness of different sciences, directing research topics in theses, implementing and commercializing student theses, and supporting the applicable theses as the goals of holding the event.

He mentioned that the disciplines and technical subjects of engineering, basic sciences, medical sciences, humanities, economics, literature and arts and language are the focus of this event at all academic levels in universities. In this regard, he affirmed: the deadline for attending or registering in the event is April 19th, 2020.

According to the report, “Panase” is the title of a festival and competition held by Iran National Science Foundation and the knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter.
