Health Ecosystem; The Seventh International Standard in the Nanotechnology Field Is Allocated to Iran

The seventh international standard in the field of nanotechnology has been published on the subject of polymer food packaging under the responsibility of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Nanotechnology- polymer nanocomposite films for food packaging with impermeable properties- determining measurement methods and specificities” is the title of the international standard allocated to Iran in the field of polymer food packaging. Four years of continuous efforts of the working group established under the supervision of the nanotechnology development headquarter have led to this standard.

The standard was proposed to the international standard organization (ISO) with the support of the nanotechnology development headquarter and with the help of the nanocomposite food packaging company in 2016. Ultimately, the standard was published in June 2020 and was announced on the official ISO website for use.

With the application of nanotechnology in this field, the durability of food increases and as a result, waste production in this field also decreases. The international standard also addresses the impermeability characteristics of nanocomposite polymer films, which are measured to improve food packaging. The basis for the development of international standards in ISO is global consensus by member states. The member states of the technical committees at different stages of the development of the standard provide different expert opinions for the completion and development of the standard. International standards usually take three-four years to develop. The Technical Committee on Nanotechnology Standards includes 36 major member countries and 18 observer states.
