Five specialized workshops on the third day of stem cells festival

On the third day of holding the workshops related to the third national festival of stem cells and regenerative medicine, five educational and specialized workshops are held.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the third day of workshops of the third national festival of stem cells and regenerative medicine is accompanied with holding five educational specialized workshops. In these workshops, “production and maintaining of induced pluripotent cells”, “extraction of human fibroblasts and keratinocytes and their cultivation”, “foundations of human and animal cells”, “advanced education of patent registration related to stem cells”, and “introduction to flow cytometry principles and its application to clinical diagnosis”.

Mahdi Toutounchi, the presenter of the theory and practical workshop of “production and maintaining of induced pluripotent cells” introduced the topics of the workshop to be an introduction to high-power and induced pluripotent cells, types of IPS cell production methods, identification and isolation of IPSs, as well as evaluation of IPS cells. This workshop was held November 26th 2018 at 8:30 a.m. in Royan Research Center.

Culture Foundations of Human and Animal Cells

Parvaneh Farzaneh, the presenter of the workshop of “culture foundations of human and animal cells” introduced the topics of the workshop to be in line with the introduction of GLP and sterilization principles, primary cell study, culture media, serums and supplements and antibiotics, expressing: some of the other topics of the workshop include defreezing, passage and freezing cells (theory), how to prepare a small bank of a cell line for common use in the research lab, how to study the morphology of the cells and identify the contamination.

According to Farzaneh, other subjects of the workshop are defreezing, passage, and freezing cells practically, as well as cell counting and providing a medium along with observing cells in culture containers.

The workshop of “culture foundations of human and animal cells” was held November 26th 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in human and animal cells bank.

Introduction to Flow Cytometry Principles and its Application to Clinical Diagnosis

Mohammad Hossein Mohammadi Geravand, the presenter of the workshop of “introduction to flow cytometry principles and its application to clinical diagnosis”, explained about the workshop: flow cytometry is a device that detects antigens using laser light. Similarly, it is possible to recognize the difference between healthy and cancerous cells based on the color they emanate.

The main topics of the workshop include basic concepts of flow cytometry and how to work with the device, clinical and research use of flow cytometry, measurable cell parameters with flow cytometry and their clinical application, principles of antibody selection and familiarity with fluorochromes, how to choose different colors for antibodies, explaining the concept of compensation for using in multicolor works, staining principles of cells with different types of marked antibodies with fluorochromes and recognition of relevant isotypes.

The workshop of “introduction to flow cytometry principles and its application to clinical diagnosis” was held November 26th 2018 at 8:00 a.m. in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation center located next to Shahid Erabi University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Erabi Street, Yaman Street, Velenjak, Tehran.

Extraction of Human Fibroblasts and Keratinocyte Cells and Their Cultivation

Mohammad Ali Nilforoushzadeh, the presenter of the “extraction of human fibroblasts and keratinocyte cells and their cultivation” workshop, which was held November 26th 2018 in Dermatology and Stem Cell Research Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, explained: fibroblast cells are the most commonly used skin cells. We need extraction of these cells not only in dermatology research, but also in other research on cell therapy.

The main topics of the workshop included introduction and review of different types of skin stem cells, culture of skin cells and their potential application in the field of cell therapy (theory), extraction of fibroblasts cells from human skin and their culture (practical), and extraction of keratinocyte cells from human cells and their culture (practical).

Advanced Education of Patent Registration Related to Stem Cells Field

Diba Ghasemi, the presenter of “advanced education of patent registration related to stem cells field” held in November 26th 2018, explained about the event: the area of stem cells is mostly paper-based rather than patent-based. Therefore, some of the projects with the ability to lead to the production of a product are left unnoticed. Therefore, we need education in this area to maintain and sell these ideas.

The workshop of “advanced education of patent registration related to stem cells field” is held in two days. The topics of the first day are familiarization with the concepts of intellectual property and patents, the components and conditions for obtaining a patent, the process of patent filing. Topics of the second day are the foundations of patent search, a patent search workshop, and the foundations of patent analysis.

This workshop is held November 26th-27th, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. in the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs with the address of No. 20, Ladan Alley, Sheikh Bahaei Street, Molasadra Boulevard, Vanak Square, Tehran.

The third national festival and international congress on stem cells and regenerative medicine is held November 24th-December 1st, 2018 by the stem cells sciences and technologies development headquarter.
