Awarding the winners of the second student Olympiad on stem cells and regenerative medicine

The closing ceremony of the second student Olympiad on stem cells and regenerative medicine was held in the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs and the winners were awarded.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Amir Ali Hamidieh, secretary of stem cells technologies development headquarter stated: this Olympiad is different than other similar events. For many years, Olympiads have been a way to escape the entrance exam of university. Meanwhile, the student Olympiad of stem cells and regenerative medicine promises no such thing. Generally, participants are motivated toward the creation of technology and entrepreneurship in the country. He also regarded the previous Olympiads as a way for exit of elites from the country.

Hamidieh pointed out that construction of a developed country required the efforts of its youth, adding: the youth of this country must learn building. Something that has not been occurred for many years due to the presence of oil-based economy, which promoted dependency. Our youth must establish their own new and knowledge-based businesses.

Secretary of stem cells technology development headquarter emphasized: the student Olympiad of stem cells and regenerative medicine is a long-term plan, which has aimed to change the participants (aged 17-18 years) in 2030. He introduced stem cells as a part of scientific areas that can improve the rank of Iran in the world. However, this success requires the creation of a proper ecosystem and active presence of the youth.

During the ceremony, valuable prizes and letters of appreciations were provided for winners of the event. In addition, the top 10 students of the Olympiad received a chance to visit one of the top companies in the area of stem cells and regenerative medicine.
