Access of researchers of the whole country to brain-mapping data in an equal opportunity

The national brain-mapping laboratory unveiled the national project of Iranian Brain-mapping Biobank (iBMB) with the goal of gathering, restoring, and purposefully evaluating the brain signals and medical images to facilitate research and education applications.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, this national project facilitates the process of projects of researchers by creating the necessary infrastructures for public access to the brain-mapping data in the whole country.

The iBMB is officially unveiled on the second symposium on new findings in the field of brain-mapping of Iran. However, it has been active in the national brain-mapping laboratory since 2017.

Mansour Fatehi, the manager of the working group of iBMB, expressed during a presentation entitled “preparing the infrastructures for interdisciplinary imaging studies: iBMB” held on the 39th congress of radiology in Turkey, introducing and evaluating the project that is welcomed by the head of the informatics association of Turkey, who clearly regarded the project to be favorable.

He continued: the iBMB is established as a national project in the national brain-mapping laboratory and is considered as an interdisciplinary database which not only restores brain images but also includes a wide range of clinical evaluation information, including psychology, psychiatrics, neurology tests, and neurosurgeon, and laboratory information including various tests related to brain health and diseases of humans and neuropathology.

Fatehi also affirmed: the aim of the national brain-mapping laboratory of establishing the iBMB is facilitating research at the national level. Therefore, the main goal is to provide the relevant data to all enthusiasts of the field in the country, such as small cities that have no easy access to high medical facilities. However, it is planned to provide “quantitative imaging” facilities to clinical centers. Another vision of iBMB is defining and establishing brain radiomics. By providing a large database for artificial intelligence researchers, iBMB hopes to allocate a section to innovations in the area of artificial intelligence.
