A 10-step leap in the ranking of the global innovation index by Iran
According to the latest report by WIPO, Iran has had a 10-step leap in the ranking of global innovation index in the world.
According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the ranking of the global innovation index is published in 2018, according to which the ranking of Iran has improved from 75 in 2017 to 65 in 2018. Meanwhile, Iran had the index of 106 in 2015.
The global innovation index is the name of a report published by WIPO every year, in which the ranking of countries are presented in terms of innovation. Fortunately, the groundwork is laid for the improvement of the position of Iran by actions performed by the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs in interactions with WIPO and relevant organizations.
Role of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and Development of Startups
This significant growth has been observed in dimensions of knowledge and technology outputs (from the ranking of 90 in 2015 to the ranking of 41 in 2018) and creative outputs (from the ranking of 116 in 2015 to 59 in 2018). Without a doubt, the development of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and development of active startups has played a significant role in the development of various economy sections.

Significant Growth of Human Resources and Research in Iran
According to the table, in which the position of countries regarding the total ranking of innovation global index is presented, the ranking of Iran was improved from 106 in 2015 to 65 in 2018, which shows a considerable improvement, compared to the report in 2017. In addition, it is at 45 among the evaluated countries.
Improvements in the dimensions of infrastructure from 99 to 87, business complexity from 115 to 108, market complexity from 112 to 106, and organizations from 106 to 110 have been evaluated.
Necessity of More Serious Attention to Innovation Inputs
According to this report, one of the features of the report of global innovation index is the all-around and balance assessment of all dimensions that affect innovation and review of the data in the new table of rankings of the countries in WIPO showed that Iran has had a growth in four-year ranges (2015-2018) and in comparison of each year with the previous year. However, it is important to mentioned that despite the growth in the total ranking of the country in recent years, some dimensions related to the innovation input have unfavorable rankings, which should not be neglected because of the appropriate growth of other dimensions.
