The workgroup of bio-bank and genetic reserves of the biotechnology development headquarter has prepared the standards related to bio-banks of fisheries and aquaculture in order to manage genetic reserves of the country in this area.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the workgroup of bio-bank and genetic reserves has been formed to manage the genetic reserves of the country in various areas. This workgroup has aimed to establish fishery and aquaculture subgroups in the area of management of fishery reserves.

Establishment of the fishery and aquaculture subgroups is carried out with various goals, including the preparation of standards related to the bio-bank of fishery and aquaculture banks, recognition and determining the main priorities in the area of fishery and aquaculture, determining the priorities of bio-bank and genetic reserves workgroup to perform the nationally required projects and collect and monitor RFPs and recognition of active bio-banks in this regard.

Other objectives of this workgroup are monitoring the adherence to standard, ranking the bio-banks, granting missions to bio-banks of this area, evaluation of present gaps, preparation of standards for maintenance and support of genetic reserves in this area to announce to the bio-banks of this field and support of bio-banks of Iranian fisheries science research institute with the value of one thousand million IRR.

According to this report, some of the measures taken to manage the genetic reserves of the country in the area of fishery by the bio-bank workgroup of the biotechnology development headquarter are support of establishment of the required bio-banks, visit of international institute of Tasmahian of Rasht for pathology and support of this institute, and visit of the research center of fishery of domestic waters in Bandar-e Anzali for pathology and support of this research center.
