President Rouhani met with the President of France Emmanuel Macron and described Europe and France’s role in protecting the post-JCPOA atmosphere important, adding that Tehran is willing to deepen ties with Paris in all field of mutual interest.

In the meeting that was held on Monday, local time in New York on the margins of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Rouhani referred to common culture between the two Iranian and French nations and said: “We welcome French investors’ presence in various sectors in Iran”.

We must not let the achievements of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) undermine, said the President adding: “JCPOA carried the message that complicated international issues can be resolved through dialogue and within the framework of a win-win approach and any harm to this idea can carry the dangerous message to the world that diplomacy is not able to settle problems”.

Referring to some actions by the current US administration in relation to the JCPOA as concerning for the global community, he said: “The only institution that must supervise the JCPOA is the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has explicitly pronounced Iran’s commitment to the agreement seven times”.

“Some must not attach a clear agreement like JCPOA to other issues,” said the President adding that Iran and France’s cooperation is regional issues, particularly in the fight against terrorism is essential.

He continued: “Iran is fighting against terrorism in the region and in this regard, our military advisors are in Iraq and Syria upon the official requests by the governments of these countries”.

Dr Rouhani referred to the issue of Iraq and the importance of the overwhelming support of the international community, including France, from the constitution and territorial integrity of the country, adding: “The talk of a referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan Region and any move to change the borders and geography of the countries of the region are very dangerous and can create long-term conflicts in the region that will not benefit any country”.

The French president also emphasized the countrys resolve to cement and deepen relations with Tehran, adding: "The post-JCPOA era provides a good opportunity to promote cooperation, and Paris is committed to supporting it."

Emmanuel Macron emphasised: “France calls for full implementation of the JCPOA and considers any renegotiation to be meaningless”.

He also mentioned referendum on the Iraqi Kurdistan and said: “Iraqi Kurds should be encouraged about their role and position in the legal structure of authority in Iraq”.

The French president also proposed the formation of a contact group composed of all the involved parties and regional powers, United Nations and permanent members of the Security Council to end the conflicts in Syria.

He also emphasised that the purpose of the formation of such a contact group did not mean shutting down and undermining the process of the Astana negotiations, but it was complementary to it.

The presidents of the two countries also discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.

President Rouhani met with the Prime Minister of Sweden in New York and said that a new chapter had begun in Tehran-Stockholm relations, adding: “The 12th Administration welcomes and supports Swedish entrepreneurs and investors’ active presence in Iran’s market”.

 

In the meeting with Stefan Löfven that was held on Monday in on the margins of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Rouhani said: “The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a good opportunity to develop ties and taking advantage of this opportunity in beneficial to both nations”.

The president also emphasised the implementation of the two countries agreements for the further development of cooperation, and stated: "We need better banking relationships to develop economic relations, and I hope that with the development of banking relations, there will be a better development in economic relations and other sectors, including academic and scientific fields, as well as advanced technologies”.

In another part of his remarks, Dr Rouhani expressed appreciation for the strong positions of the European Union, including Sweden, regarding the JCPOA and said: “The positions of the new US government are not suited to this important international agreement. JCPOA is an agreement that will be useful to the security and stability of the region and the world, and it will not harm anyone, and I hope that with cooperation of the parties, the agreement continues well”.

The president said that Iran sticks to the agreements and that the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed this, adding: “The other side must adhere to its obligations. The institution that ought to monitor implementation is merely the IAEA; but despite the fact that the IAEA is endorsing the adherence of Iran, some US officials claim that some of the paragraphs have not been implemented well; such statements have a negative impact”.

Dr Rouhani also mentioned the issue of fighting terrorism in the region and said: "Terrorists are defeated in Iraq and Syria, and good talks are underway in the Kazakh capital, Astana about Syria, in the presence of Iran, Russia and Turkey, which have achieved good successes. And all efforts should focus on the stability and security of the region”.

The president went on to address the issue of Yemen and thousands of displaced Yemeni people and said: "We also hope that the Yemeni groups will begin negotiations with the cease-fire in Yemen, and that the EU can support the security of the region by supporting this process”.

Dr Rouhani also mentioned the sad conditions of the Muslim community in Myanmar, saying: "Severe conditions have arisen for the Muslims of Myanmar and 400,000 innocent people are displaced. Pressurizing the Myanmar government to stop genocide and violence against Muslims is an essential step and undoubtedly, the role of the European Union in stopping the inhumane pressure on Myanmar Muslims and helping the displaced”.

The Swedish prime minister also called for a quicker implementation of all agreements between the two countries, saying: "I assure you that there is no limit to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, and we support eliminating banking obstacles”.

"We are pleased that Iran, according to the Agencys reports, has fulfilled all its obligations to implement the JCPOA, and all parties must also comply with their obligations," said Stefan Löfven, emphasizing that "the deal should not be undermined".

He also called the situation of Muslims in Myanmar a tragedy, adding: “As an independent state, Sweden will do whatever it can in this regard. Regarding this issue, we raised the issue at the United Nations Security Council and will continue attempts to end the tragedy”.

 

 

President Rouhani met with the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen in New York and expressed happiness over growing Tehran-Vienna ties and said: “Tehran welcomes growing relations with European Union member countries, including Austria and I hope we witness further development of ties and cooperation with more collaboration”.

 

In the meeting that was held on Monday local time on the margins of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Rouhani said: “In the post-JCPOA era, there is a good opportunity for further cementing relations with all European countries, and with regard to vast opportunities that the two countries have, particularly in investment, trade, science and modern technologies, cooperation must be promoted”.

He added: “Any economic move requires good atmosphere and in the recent years, no country or company investing in Iran regrets it”.

“There are ample opportunities for investment in Iran, including in the field of energy, roads and railroads, banking and insurance, tourism, research and technology that Austria can take advantage of,” continued the president.

Referring to the role of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in development of cooperation, he said: “Full implementation of JCPOA is beneficial to EU and the region; therefore, it is essential that the EU play its role in this field to serve its own and European companies’ interests”.

Dr Rouhani continued to mention regional issues, including the fight of the peoples of the region against terrorism, and said: “Iran has responded positively to the fight against terrorism upon the request of the Iraqi and Syrian governments, and continues to fight until the final victory is achieved”.

The president described any change in the geographical boundaries of the countries of the region as dangerous, and said: "The new concern is the talk of referendum on the independence of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which can create a new and very dangerous tension and conflict”.

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen also called for broadening and deepening Tehran-Vienna cooperation in all areas, saying: "We are interested in good relations and direct investment in Iran."

He also referred to promising figures on Irans economy in the global stage, adding: "These figures are very promising, and encourage European and Austrian companies to participate in the Iranian market more than before."
