According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the general vision of the project of developing marine biotechnology in the country is turning Iran into the pole of producing marine bio-products and having a scientific authority in the region of Persian Gulf regarding health, environment, aquatic production, and various industries.

The main goal of this project is helping the elimination of current challenges in fields of health, welfare, food products and service. Creating a national information network by the membership of universities, research institutes and the private sector (especially knowledge-based companies) with the goal of integrating the data, recognizing the economic, social, research, technology challenges, and prioritizing the research topics and innovations related to the field of marine biotechnology, identifying the current potential in the north and south of Iran, political support and creating infrastructures will increase the share of marine biotechnology in total GPD of the country and training specialized human resources and creating jobs and forming new markets.

Presenting the roadmap based on three short-term, mid-term, and long-term programs on five topics in the marine biotechnology field has been created, so that the programs could be carried out in various fields of recognition of the capacity and potential of aquatic creatures known in the country, producing masses, creating innovation and categorizing bio-products and technologies and the available infrastructures and support policies in the field.
