The secretary of biotechnology development headquarter stated: currently, there is a capacity for biofuel production in the country, application of which requires national determination.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Mostafa Ghanei, secretary of biotechnology development headquarter, pointed out that advanced countries of the world use biofuels, expressing: today, we have the capacity for biofuel production in Qeshm, Isfahan and Kermanshah. We can add 10% bioethanol to our petrol and remove the toxic compound of MTBE.

He also mentioned that this process has been tested on public transportation buses, affirming: biodiesel used as test in the public transportation buses of Tehran is produced from burned oils in restaurants, which has yielded positive results.

Ghanei also marked that the cost of petrol produced by this approach is not that different from the currently applied gasoline, asserting: use of biofuels in cities of the country requires the obligatory application and acceptance by the consumers.
