The hand-made satellites of students will compete with each other

Next week, Ivanaki Airport of Semnan Province will witness the flight of small and hand-made space explorers of Iranian students, those which have finished their satellite mission and will come back to earth. This is a competition for assessing the abilities of Iran in various universities to send satellites to the space.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, the seventh national round and the first international round of CanSat competition will be held on March 10th 2019 with the support of the national space and advanced transportation administration in the presence of Iranian and foreign student teams.

The CanSat competitions of Iran have been designed and held with the goal of creating a foundation for growth of quality of knowledge and experience of students and enthusiasts of the field. In this regard, an interesting competition has been made in this field.

The main mission of Cansats is completely flawless landing using a parachute or other tools. The landing information must be communication with the ground station at any time, or be saved and replayed later in the Cansat. The landing information included temperature, humidity, speed and acceleration.

These competitions all involve the aspects of design, construction and testing of a space project from the report of primary design to the implementation on the operation day and presenting the results. Missions and necessities have been considered to reflect various aspects of actual missions, such as remote missions, telecommunication, biology, and automation.

Cansat is a very simple mechatronic system, recognized as the subgroup of space robotic knowledge. The name of this system is based on its standard manufacturing facility, which is in the dimension of cans of soda. This system provides an educational opportunity to be interested in designing and building satellites. One must include all the essential parts of a satellite, including power subsystems, data management, command and telecommunications, so that it can operate independently.

In this year’s competitions, 18 student teams participated from Iran and two teams were from Turkey. These teams competed with the explorers and the top teams were recognized and introduced.
