Sattari: We Will Support the Transformation of Abandoned Buildings into Innovative Centers

Sorena Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs, pointed out the necessity of developing the innovation ecosystem’s infrastructures in Kermanshah Province during the meeting of “economy of resistance and production leap”, which was held in the presence of some of the managers and authorities of the province, stating: the Vice-Presidency is fully prepared to equip abandoned and unused buildings of the province to turn them into innovation centers.

During the meeting, Sattari expressed: one of the most central issues that the country's officials and academic researchers should pay attention to is that one cannot expect product research and commercialization from an academic research, while the private sector has no investment or participation in the research process. Simply put, product-based research cannot be created with government funding.

Revenue from the Production of Knowledge

The president of the headquarters for culture knowledge-based economy explained the features of researcher-based universities, adding: a university can consider itself successful if it earns a significant portion of its costs from the production of knowledge and partnerships with the private sector and the marketing of technological products. When a university unit is 100% dependent on the government budget, it also suffers from shortcomings and challenges in the field of education.

Mentioning the population of graduates in the country, Sattari affirmed: lack of ability of graduates to generate added value is due to unfavorable education in universities. Government-based and oil-based economy will ultimately lead to multiple governments. Administrative processes in such an economy are often very lengthy. Undoubtedly, innovation ecosystem activists will struggle to obtain a license from such offices and will not be able to interact with such a mechanism.

The president of the national elites foundation added: we all must dedicate to the move toward the knowledge-based economy, for which more culture building is required. The most important resources of the country are manpower, not oil and mineral resources, the development of an endogenous concept. You must create development within the province by relying on these young people of Kermanshah.

Development of Infrastructures of Innovation Ecosystem in Kermanshah

Pointing out his previous trips to Kermanshah Province, Sattari declared: the science and technology park of Kermanshah needs development in its infrastructures, for which the Vice-Presidency is prepared to completely support the development of the infrastructures of its innovation ecosystem.

If abandoned and unused buildings of the province are turned into innovation centers for the youth, the Vice-Presidency will fully equip them.

The president of the headquarters for culture knowledge-based economy mentioned the necessity of local and provincial decision-making in the field of financial support, adding: the Vice-Presidency is prepared to allocate the resources of the province’s research and technology fund to this area. It is notable that the foundation is supported by Iran innovation foundation. Knowledge-based and technology companies in the province should also try to advance their ideas and plans based on the needs and realities of society and try to create added value by relying on the natural and human resources of Kermanshah province. There are large companies in Kermanshah province that have significant activities and are exemplary in the country.

Using the Province’s High Agricultural Capacity

While explaining the method of development of the knowledge-based economy in the province, Sattari added: Kermanshah has a significant capacity in the field of agriculture. Provincial knowledge-based companies, technology companies and startups should focus on the country's food security and create new production lines in the province by localizing the technology of producing fertilizers, pesticides, plant inputs and drugs needed by the livestock and poultry industry. The Vice-Presidency will support the youth of the country in this field.

Pointing out the decisions made in previous trips to Kermanshah, Sattari expressed: the progress made during the recent visit to Kermanshah is very significant. However, we are still far from the significant level and need improvement in this area. We are happy that the provincial authorities, especially the governor of Kermanshah, are following up the projects and the development of infrastructures. Efforts should be made to establish innovation centers and science and technology parks within the university so that these centers operate in parallel with the science and technology park in Kermanshah province.

During his trip to Kermanshah, Sattari unveiled several technological projects in the field of innovation ecosystem. The inauguration of the Innovation Complex of the Science and Technology Park with an area of 6,000 meters, the inauguration of a modern greenhouse unit and the unveiling of 7 designs and inventions in the field of health were among the events of this one-day trip. Sattari also visited the opening of production lines of knowledge-based companies and some of their new projects, such as “BZN2 catalyst production unit”.
