Databank on geothermal resources and preparation of the geothermal map of this province were performed with the support of energy technologies development headquarter.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad has performed two projects in the area of geothermal energy with the support of energy technologies development headquarter. In this regard, creation of a databank on geothermal resources and preparation of a geothermal map have been carried out in Southern Khorasan Province by experts of this field to take another step toward the development of this knowledge in the country. Performing of this project leads to the determining of promising geothermal resources in this province.

With an area of over 140,000 square kilometers, more than 70% of surface outcrops of Southern Khorasan Province are covered by igneous rocks. Therefore, it seems that there is a great potential for exploration and exploitation of geothermal resources. This project was initiated in 2014, passed its executive processes and was end in 2016. In fact, land and its energy are the God-given blessings that are available in all countries. These taken measures have provided the foundation for use of this clearn energy in the country.
