Oil Jackets Competitions with the Approach of Modeling of Marine Structures
The competition of oil jackets will be held in the student section of the festival on October 24th, 2018.
According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Hamed Khodadoust, the executive secretary of the competitions in the fourth national festival of “Sea, the Path of Progress”, stated in an interview with the reporter of the science and academic group of Fars Press: the oil jacket competition will be held on October 24th 2018 with the goal of modeling the deep-water marine structures (jacket) in the form of optimal gravity load based on the regulations issued by the secretariat.
He continued: the oil jackets competition is among the series of spaghetti construct competition, which will be held on oil platforms this time, where participants must use spaghetti to create constructs similar to oil platforms with the ability of tolerating the gravity load.
In addition, Khodadoust marked: in spaghetti constructs, individuals aim to use physics and mechanics laws and accurate engineering computations to create what actually exists at laboratory scale and using spaghetti, which is a quite fragile material. In fact, the structures must be created by scientific work and advanced and accurate estimations.
In this competition, the participants will be familiarized with the application of engineering computations in an actual space and experience teamwork and project management.
He continued: in the university student section, the structures must be 100 kg, whereas the structures created in the school student section must tolerate 50 kg. At the end, the structures able to tolerate the gravity load and with the lowest weight were selected as the best structure.
The fourth round of the national festival of “Sea, the Path of Progress” will be held October 23rd-25th, 2018 in the Holy Defense Museum of Tehran and by the efforts of the marine knowledge-based industries and technologies development headquarter. It is notable that this festival has various sections, including student short films and photographs, ROVs competition, RSVs competition, marine idea market competition, marine technological achievements and projects of the country, marine school student festival, marine technological achievements exhibition, marine application startup demo, and port automation entrepreneurial event.
