Secretary of cognitive sciences and technologies development headquarter stated: Iran has ranked second in the region in terms of cognitive sciences. However, we need to increase our efforts in this area since there is an intense competition between countries. In addition, 12 knowledge-based companies have been established in this field so far.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Kamal Kharazi, secretary of cognitive sciences and technologies development headquarter, stated on the opening ceremony of the first symposium on the new aspects of brain mapping by national brain mapping lab of Iran: in the past, a scientist or scholar would have knowledge in various scientific fields. For instance, some of the Iranian scientists, including Ibn Sina, Farabi and Al-Biruni, were skilled in the sciences of that time, such as philosophy, mathematics, physics, chemistry and even medicine. However, the fields of science were separated from each other over time and many scientific branches and specialized fields were formed.

Brain Is the Large Network of Data Processing

Dr. Kharazi pointed out brain studies in another part of his speech, expressing: cognitive sciences is involved with the study of human cognitive functions and issues such as the method of processing the received information by brain and abilities of mankind in terms of thinking, memory, problem solving and decision-making, or the section of brain involved with cognitive applications in activities of brain.

Secretary of cognitive sciences and technologies development headquarter also explained about the role of imaging and brain mapping in modern psychology.

Behaviors of Each Individual Have a Specific Structure in Brain.

Stating the fact that human behaviors are determined by brain structures and networks, Kharazi affirmed that evaluation of differences in the brain of healthy individuals and those with mental and cognitive disorders can lead to the recognition of the neuropsychological roots of human differences.

In addition, individuals can be distinguished by assessing their brain signals. That is why polygraphs based on brain signal analysis are used today, results of which can determine the truth about claims of individuals. Therefore, new technologies have created the opportunity to have access to black box of brain for scientists, who can directly evaluate brain function of humankind.

He continued: as a result, todays psychology is based on the study of brain and an experimental and laboratory science, and is extremely different from past theoretical studies on human psyche. This is due to the presence of new technologies in study of brain and interdisciplinary approach, which has dominated the world these days. In psychology of today, neuroscience, brain chemistry, brain mapping, computational computing and processing of data obtained from brain studies cooperate with each other.

Mapping of Massive Brain Networks

In the next part of his speech, Kharazi pointed out the status of Iran in terms of cognitive science.

Pointing out the fact that researchers of the country have welcomed this laboratory, he asserted: this laboratory has been welcomed by researchers in a way that we need to increase the working hours of the lab from one shift to two shift, so that researchers would be able to use more of the laboratory services.

12 knowledge-based Companies Have Been Established in the Area of Cognitive Science

Expressing the regional status of Iran in terms of cognitive sciences, which is reported to be two, he emphasized: we need to increase our efforts in this area due to the extreme competitiveness of other countries.

He added that up to this date, 12 knowledge-based companies have been created in the area of cognitive sciences, all of which are new and active in the area of laboratory equipment production, cognitive function study tools and computer software to improve human cognitive abilities.

The first symposium of new aspects of brain mapping by national brain mapping lab of Iran was held September 24^th-25^th, 2017 at the campus of technical schools of Tehran University.
