Secretary of biotechnology development headquarter stated: one of the priorities of the headquarter in this year is the development and management of bioinformatics to increase synergy in this field.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Mostafa Ghanei, secretary of biotechnology development headquarter, pointed out the necessity of development of bioinformatics in the country, expressing: daily increase of the big genome data and the need for its saving and evaluating the data have led to the formation of bioinformatics science, which is also followed up by the headquarter.

He continued: as an interdisciplinary knowledge, this newly emerged knowledge aimed to use the current techniques in computer, mathematics, genetics, chemistry, physics and relevant sciences to solve various biotechnology issues often observed on the surface of molecules.

According to Ghanei, bioinformatics is the knowledge of using computer sciences and statistics in the area of molecular biotechnology. Over the past few decades, advancement in molecular biotechnology has led to the need for research to increase genome sequencing in many species of creatures. In fact, genome sequencing projects are among the most common types of projects.
