“Determining the productivity of energy and pattern of economic planting in watering condition with underground water and sustainable agriculture” is the title of a research performed by Iranian researchers in Qazvin.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, more than 90% of Iranian plantings are irrigated planting, which requires water. In general, energy consumption is required in farming for supplying water, plowing and crop operations, harvesting and transportation.

In this regard, a project with the title of “determining the productivity of energy and pattern of economic planting in watering condition with underground water and sustainable agriculture” was performed in Qazvin by researchers of University of Tehran and with the support of the Iranian national science foundation. The Qazvin plain was selected due to its multiple deep and semi-deep wells. With regard to the depth of underground water, the value of product, energy consumption and other agricultural costs, it was determined whether the harvesting pattern in that region is economical or not.

On the other hand, the volume of underground water decreases in many plains of the country every year, which is indicative of increased energy consumption to pump water for irrigated farming. Therefore, the proper harvesting pattern changes over time (with regard to reduced level of underground water). As a result, providing instructions to estimate the economic depth of well for each agricultural product with regard to the costs of water pump, produce value and other costs (including planting and harvesting) seems essential. The mentioned project was carried out due to this issue.
