During 2005-2015, Iran had the best fishery industry in the region. In general, the top countries, regarding fishery, of the world are Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen and Emirates of Arabia. To date, no new report has been presented on the latest statistics of this area.
According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, after the evaluation of fish producers of the world, it seems that Asia is the largest producer of this field. In 2012, Asia was the largest fish producing continent of the world with 51 million tons of fish. The following ranks were allocated to America (19 million tons), Europe (13 million tons), Africa (eight million tons) and Oceania (about one million ton). In Asia, Iran was ranked 13 in 2012 regarding fish production.
Fishery along the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea
The total fishery rate along the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea was 528,349 tons in 2015, and Iran had the most share of fishery in the region. Given the decreased resources of seas, application of capacities and new opportunities for production have been put on the agenda of fishery organization of Iran. One of the most important capacities in this area is fishery in offshore and international waters. In this regard, the fishery organization of Iran has used ship-class vessels through purse seine method to capture tons of fish, which has led to the obtaining of first rank in west of Indian Ocean and second rank in capturing tons of fish in Indian Ocean.
According to this report, the marine knowledge-based industries and technologies development headquarter has finished the evaluation in marine statistics of Iran in order to assess the fishery status of the country in the Middle East and the world.
