Academic technology and innovations at the service of solving urban problems

 

The secretary of knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter expressed: along with a joint agreement signed between the municipality of Tehran and the Vice-Presidency in line with support of development of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the capital of Iran, the academic innovations and technologies will be put at the service for developing valuating, occupation creation and solving of urban problems.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Parviz Karami, secretary of knowledge-based economy and technologies development headquarter, pointed out the moving of the municipality of Tehran toward the use of smart technologies and solving urban problems by relying on startup businesses during the meeting on signing a trilateral agreement on cooperation in support of startups and smart innovation centers in Tehran, expressing: this cooperation agreement and expansion of interactions between the municipality and the Vice-Presidency and innovation centers and top universities, such as Sharif University of Industry, leads to enhancement of service provision for people and laying the foundation of development of knowledge-based and startup businesses based on the innovation of creative and educated youth and creation of added value and new occupations.

The representative of the Vice-Presidency continued: this cooperation agreement is signed between the municipality of district 9, Sharif University of Industry, and information technology organization of the municipality of Tehran to pave the way for using the capacity of elites, top talents and creative entrepreneurs, and residents of Tehran, and benefiting from innovative and technologies of startups and knowledge-based businesses in the urban life. 

Karami regarded knowledge-based companies, startups, science and technology parks, innovation centers, VCs, accelerators and creative industries as the most important keywords in the Vice-Presidency to support the passing of Iran from traditional economy to knowledge-based economy, adding: the Vice-Presidency has taken a great step toward the support of development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem by operating the law of supporting knowledge-based companies and startups in the country. Today, more than 3600 knowledge-based companies and thousands of startups have been established that play a pivotal role in passing from resource-based economy to a dynamic, creative, and knowledge-based economy.

Secretary of knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter introduced the support of cultural and creative industries by the Vice-Presidency to be in line with the support of establishment of a proper entrepreneurial ecosystem for innovative and newly developed businesses, expressing: knowledge-based companies can benefit from the support provided for these enterprises if their illegibility is approved. However, there are some companies that lack the necessary high levels of technology to be knowledge-based despite their creative nature or are active in the areas of humanities and soft technologies. In this regard, measures have been taken to create a new path for development of a proper ecosystem for activities of these types of businesses in the form of the program of development of the creative companies’ ecosystem.

During the meeting, Seyed Ali Mafakherian, mayor of district 9 of Tehran, pointed out the support of program of development of innovative businesses in capital of Iran by residents of this city, mentioning: this center has been established as the first effect of development of smart technologies in Tehran with the cooperation of Sharif University of Industry, laying the foundation for providing smart services to residents of the capital, especially in the west part of Tehran.

Initiation of Technological Cooperation between the Municipality of Distract 9 and Sharif University of Industry

In this ceremony, a trilateral agreement was signed to create, establish and develop the urban innovation ecosystem in line with the programs of Tehran. This agreement was signed by Mohammad Farjoud, CEO of information technology organization of municipality of Tehran, Mafakherian, the mayor of district 9 of Tehran, and Dehbidipour, head of science and technology park of Sharif University of Industry.

The urban technology development center and support of active researchers and technology units in the urban region, as well as evaluation, direction and monitoring of technological units based in this center are among the topics of this cooperation agreement.

In addition, discussing the fundamental challenges in the field of urban management to solve problems, designing empowering models and supplying the proper human resources using the joint capacities with the help of innovations of Sharif University of industry are among the priorities of this agreement.

In addition, a strategic committee consisting of selected representatives of each party of the agreement will be established to present a report on the implementation of the agreement every three months.

It is notable that a cooperation agreement was signed between the Vice-Presidency and municipality of Tehran during September with the goal of establishing knowledge-based companies and startups in abandoned places of Tehran, which was signed by Sorena Sattari, the vice president for science and technology affairs, and Afshani, the mayor of Tehran.

The meeting on signing a joint cooperation agreement on establishment of innovative urban services center was held in the presence of Seyed Ali Mafakherian, mayor of district 9 of Tehran, Parviz Karami, secretary of knowledge-based economy and culture-building technologies development headquarter, Zahra Nejhad Bahram, a member of city council of Tehran, Majid Dehbidipour, head of the science and technology park of Sharif University of Industry, Mohammad Reza Movahedi, research deputy of Sharif University of Industry, Mohammad Farjoud, CEO of information technology organization of municipality of Tehran, Hamidreza Rabiei, head of the information technology and advanced communications research center of Sharif University of Industry, and a number of managers and deputies of Municipality of Tehran.
