According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, Mohammad Saeed Seyf announced the finalization of 11 major subjects in preparation of marine technology roadmap of the country in a meeting in the presence of marine experts and professors, stating: the marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter has been able to compile and prepare the marine technology roadmap by focusing on three major areas of commercialization, occupation creation and added value.

He introduced 11 finalized subjects in compilation and preparation of marine technology roadmap of the country, expressing: coverage and colors, sea bed exploitation systems for oil and gas resources and design standards for offshore structures, maintenance, marine interval repairs, marine impellers, main stimulator and marine industry software, underground robots, design and modeling of environmental conditions, and extraction of energy from waves and extraction of compounds from marine resources, are among the main subjects in preparation of marine technology roadmap.

In terms of methods to improve marine technology activities, the secretary of marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter affirmed: over the past few years, marine area has gained a specialized position in the country and a special place in the parliament, government and expediency. Therefore, we can more properly exploit this industry by having specific programs and goals.

Creating a Brighter Future for the Sea

Pointing out the international statistics of Iran in marine industry, Seyf asserted: Iran has ranked sixth in marine area in 2016, which was the best rank in marine engineering fields.

Secretary of marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter continued: this success is definitely due to proper and honest cooperation between marine activists and professors.

Seyf also pointed out the abilities and mission of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs in using the scientific power of the country, conveying: with an emphasis on three major areas of “commercialization, occupation creation and added value”, the marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter has aimed to direct the scientific power and turn scientific achievements into industry and occupation.

He also mentioned that compilation of technology roadmap of Iran is one of the positive steps toward the commercialization and development of marine technologies. In this regard, he continued: we hope that, whether from the theoretical aspect (compilation and outlook) or from execution aspect, a communication loop and mutual language is created between marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter and professors. With regard to the abilities of the country, it is aimed to achieve the commercialization and development of strategic technologies by supporting academic research and industries projects.

Methods for Improvement of Marine-based Technological Activities of Iran Are Evaluated

Amir Hossein Safargholi, secretary of the group of strategic studies and planning of marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter, pointed out the execution trend of marine technology road map, stating: marine headquarter has been responsible for management of compilation of marine technology roadmap since 2014 in order to create technologies and use the abilities of the country with the cooperation of about 20 marine organizations.

Secretary of the group of strategic studies and planning of marine knowledge-based industry and technology development headquarter introduced four main phases for general process of compilation of roadmap, affirming: preliminary studies, recognition of major technology areas, compilation and drawing of technology roadmap in major areas, and review and update, are some of the main phases of preparation of marine technology roadmap.

Safargholi also expressed: in addition, attractiveness-capability matrix has been drawn for each prioritized technology using the opinions of experts and scoring based on pre-defined indicators. It is noteworthy that technologies determined in this section are in fact regarded as prioritized technologies in the country for development.
