With the Support of Marine Knowledge-based Technology and Industries Development Headquarters of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology Affairs;

Selected works of the second round of student cardboard boat race are introduced.

In the second round of student cardboard boat race, participants competed in two groups of 12 and three groups were selected at the end.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, students competes in two groups of 12 in the second round of student cardboard boat race. At the end of the race, groups of IRISL Cadet Shipping Institute, Fast Spacecraft of Persian Gulf University and Thunder from Imam Khamenei University were ranked first to three, respectively. In addition, prizes for creativity and pleasing appearance were given to the groups of Gulf Dolphin and Sorena from shipping institute.

According to this report, the second round of student cardboard boat race was held to practice teamwork, learn about concepts of marine engineering-shipbuilding, teach creativity and innovation concomitantly with fun, use science in practice and create scientific vitality among students. This competition was held with the support of marine knowledge-based technology and industries development headquarters of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs and by marine engineering department of Persian Gulf University.

Holding this competition goes back to 1962 in Illinois, America. Today, many famous universities of the world, including MIT of America, Ontario of Canada and UTM of Malaysia, hold this event. Depending on the size of the pool or lake, boats produced with cardboard, duck tape and wood glue will all compete and boats that reach the finish point faster than other will be the winners of the race. The first round of this competition was held in Persian Gulf University in May 2015.

 

The second round of national cardboard boat race was held at Persian Gulf University in Bushehr and on the beach of Persian Gulf on May 11th with the support of marine knowledge-based technology and industries development headquarters of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs.
